Good Morning Bonjour Canada!

Well it is that time of year again! Sure there is still snow on the ground in some parts of the country, and Alert, top of Canada is COLD as heck, but it is time for us to bid you adieu for the non winter season! A quick glance at our records show that we started tweeting back in SEPTEMBER, to it's been a lonnnnng winter!

Now we should remind you all that Technically, the Long John Index doesn't turn off. You will see a tweet or post from time to time, as WINTER doesn't technically turn off! You just won't see any regular posts or tweets! By law, we have to make way for folks at the UV Index ( two Index's can't occupy the same space. It's science.)

We have to give a big thanks to everyone who made this Winter Season so amazing! We had a lot of wonderful things happen! We darn near doubled our Twitter Followers, made some new friends on Facebook. We also got to talk to some of our pals at Various CBC's and Featured on the Weather Network . Not only that, we had a wonderful fan knit us some Mittens! Congratulations to Jenny and Sudbury and Erin from Edmonton! We will have your mittens in the mail soon!

The 2013 - 2014 Winter Season will be here before we all know it and we already have some changes planned! Re-vamped website for sure, and some other secret secret ideas!

On behalf of everyone here at the Long John Index, thank you for all your Tweets, Toque Purchases, Facebook Comments and Emails. It's great to be a part of a community of wacky weather nerds.

Keep warm, and we will talk to you soon,

Staff and Lowly Interns,

Long John Index Service of Canada

You Could Win a Pair of HOMEMADE Long John Index Mittens!

Back in July, when the snow was still weeks away, and Canadians were basking in 19 hours of sunlight, we received a message from a local reader. Unlike most messages we receive, which are either spammy, or have lawsuits attached to them, this message promised something grand! This Long John Index fan was such a fan, that she wanted to give us mittens! mittens that she would knit! WITHOUT ROBOTS! Naturally, we said yes, but with the only stipulation is that we would give them away in a contest.

All of a sudden, it was January, and we received another message from our Wonder Knitter: the Mittens were finished! And even more amazing, there were not one, not two, but Three pairs! A kids size, ladies and men's set! That's Right! THREE PAIRZ! And we are giving them all away!

How do you get a pair? Well you need to tell us what you love about winter. Draw a picture, sing a song, write us a poem or teach your dog to build a snow person. We will post whatever you send on the blog, for all the country to see, and we will select 3 winners, who will receive a pair of either kids, ladies or men's mittens. Tell us which pair you want to win to be entered into that specific draw!

Send your shinnanegans to keepwarm (at) Longjohnindex.ca. The deadline is February 15 2013. We will post entries and tweet them as we receive them.

By the way, a BIG mitten high five to our Wonder Knitter, @marilynk_ for the awesome mittens! She invented the pattern and everything!

Long John Index Turns 1! Everyone in Long Johns!

It was exactly 1 Year ago TODAY, that the Long John Index Service of Canada appeared on the Internets!! While we didn't start posting, Tweeting and Facebookishing regularly until January 3rd, 2011, the first post appeared Dec 7, 2010 and read:

"Your Long John Index for Edmonton, Alberta Canada is 3, or "High." Which is alot. Wear your Long Johns."

BAHAHAH. Hilarious! Anyway, to Celebrate, we thought we'd post this interview that Chief Intern Colin MacIntyre did in June with Jeff Samsonow of 'The Edmontonian.' It's the first Video interview we've ever done, PLUS has some behind the scenes looks at the operation. As an added bonus, Both Colin and Jeff, did the interview whilst wearing Long Johns.

Thank you to everyone who has made the first year online for the Long John Index Service such a crazy one! We can't wait to see what year two will bring! Mitten High Fives all around!

Sincerely, the Staff and Lowly Interns,

Long John Index Service of Canada
